333 Tor Exit Nodes Hijacked to Intercept SSH Traffic and Retrieve Plaintext Email
A three-day operation compromised 333 Tor exit nodes in an attempt to intercept sensitive traffic. The compromised nodes were used to intercept SSH communications and retrieve plaintext email, according to Ars Technica.
The incident highlights the security risks associated with Tor exit nodes. Because traffic is routed through these nodes before reaching its destination, a compromised exit can potentially observe unencrypted data that is not protected by end-to-end encryption.
