Ancient Martian Meteorite Offers Clues to Mars’ Early Crust and Water
A rock discovered in the Sahara Desert has been identified as one of the oldest Martian meteorites found on Earth, having formed more than 4.1 billion years ago.
Because the rock dates from Mars’ early history, it may preserve information about the planet’s primordial crust and the processes that shaped its surface. Its composition could also help scientists investigate whether water played a role in the development of Mars during that period.
