AMD and Anthropic Sign $5 Billion AI Infrastructure Partnership
AMD and Anthropic have announced a major infrastructure partnership worth up to $5 billion, marking one of the largest AI computing deals to date.
Under the agreement, Anthropic will deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD's Instinct MI450 AI GPUs through the chipmaker's new Helios rack-scale system. The companies expect to bring the first gigawatt online in the first half of 2027.
The deal builds on Anthropic's recent push to secure substantial computing resources. The AI company has also reached data center agreements with SpaceX and TeraWulf, and maintains existing partnerships with Google, Broadcom, and Amazon.
For AMD, the partnership represents a significant push to compete more aggressively in the AI accelerator market, where NVIDIA has dominated in recent years. The company has been developing its Instinct GPU lineup specifically for AI workloads and large-scale deployments.
The scale of the commitment—2 gigawatts of power dedicated to AI processing—highlights the enormous energy demands of modern AI model training and deployment. This infrastructure expansion comes as AI companies race to secure enough computing capacity to train and run increasingly capable models.
