Researchers Find Apple Private Relay Not Fully Protecting User IP Addresses
Apple's Private Relay feature, designed to enhance user privacy by masking IP addresses, has been found to have security vulnerabilities that can expose users' real IP addresses.
Researchers identified a group of issues with the feature and shared their findings with 404 Media, which verified that the vulnerabilities do indeed leak real IP addresses. The discovery raises concerns about the effectiveness of Private Relay as a privacy tool.
Private Relay is part of Apple's iCloud+ subscription service and works by routing user traffic through multiple relays to help obscure browsing activity. However, the identified flaws could potentially allow third parties to correlate traffic patterns and determine users' actual IP addresses, undermining the feature's core privacy promise.
