Apple tightens age ratings for dating and AI companion apps

Apple is preparing new App Store age-rating requirements for apps that connect people through dating, relationships, location sharing, or interactions with virtual companions.

Developers will need to provide more information about whether their apps allow users to share their real-world location with others or include features supporting dating, relationships, or sexual behavior between people or AI companions. Apple will use those declarations to assign the appropriate age rating.

Apps with dating and relationship features will be limited to users aged 18 and older. Apps that include location sharing may also have their minimum age ratings adjusted, depending on the region.

The changes bring AI companion apps into the same age-rating framework as conventional dating services, making developers responsible for identifying when their features cross that threshold.
