Boeing Consolidates eVTOL Holdings with Archer Aviation Deal
Boeing has reached an agreement to transfer three of its eVTOL subsidiaries to Archer Aviation, a San Jose-based company developing electric air taxis. The deal includes Wisk Aero, which has been focused on autonomous electric aircraft development; SkyGrid, working on air traffic management systems for urban air mobility; and Insitu, a manufacturer of high-altitude drones serving the U.S. Navy.
As part of the transaction, Boeing will retain access to Wisk's autonomous flight systems for its existing and next-generation commercial and defense programs. The two companies have also established a broader technology-sharing arrangement, with Boeing taking an undisclosed equity stake in Archer.
The consolidation reflects a broader trend in the advanced air mobility sector, where companies are seeking to combine expertise in aircraft development, autonomous systems, and infrastructure management. Wisk, in particular, has been developing all-electric, autonomous aircraft designed for urban passenger transport, while Insitu brings experience in uncrewed systems that could complement both defense and commercial applications.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction is subject to standard regulatory approvals.
