BYD Plans European Rollout of Ultra-Fast Flash EV Chargers
Chinese EV manufacturer BYD is expanding its European presence with a major investment in ultra-fast charging infrastructure. The company has already installed its first Flash Chargers in Germany and the UK, with plans to deploy a total of 3,000 units across Europe by the end of next year.
The Flash Chargers deliver 1,500kW of power, significantly outpacing Tesla's 500kW V4 Superchargers. This capability reportedly enables approximately five-minute charge times for compatible vehicles. However, Tesla maintains a substantial head start with roughly 20,000 Superchargers already operating throughout Europe.
The infrastructure push comes at a considerable cost. According to the Financial Times, each charger carries an estimated price tag of €580,000 (approximately $670,000), bringing the projected total investment to roughly $2 billion.
