Canva cuts 22% of staff and restructures during slowing growth

Canva is undertaking its largest workforce reduction to date, with changes affecting 1,271 people, or 22% of the company’s staff. Co-founder and CEO Melanie Perkins described the move as necessary to prepare Canva for the next decade.

The company says small adjustments would not be enough. As part of a broader restructuring, some employees will see changes to their roles or be asked to relocate to centralized hubs, while others will leave the company.

The cuts come as Canva faces slowing growth and what Perkins called its “hardest year” yet. The restructuring is intended to return the company to what Perkins described as its roots, with a smaller and more focused organization heading into its next phase.
