LONGi Achieves 35.5% Efficiency with Tandem Solar Cells
Chinese company LONGi has developed crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells with a 35.5 percent conversion efficiency.
Tandem solar cells, which stack multiple layers of light-absorbing materials, can capture a broader spectrum of sunlight compared to traditional single-junction cells. The combination of crystalline silicon and perovskite materials allows for higher efficiency by leveraging the strengths of both technologies.
This efficiency rating surpasses typical commercial silicon solar panels, which generally range between 20-25 percent efficiency. The advancement could contribute to reducing the cost of solar energy generation by requiring fewer panels to produce the same amount of electricity.
