Tea drinking associated with lower cardiovascular risk in large study

A large study of nearly 486,000 adults has linked regular tea drinking with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Participants who drank tea regularly had an 11% lower risk of heart and blood vessel conditions than those who did not.

The association was strongest among people consuming approximately six to eight cups per day. Black tea showed more consistent benefits than green tea across the study.

Because the findings are based on an association, they do not establish that drinking tea directly causes the lower risk. Differences in lifestyle, diet, smoking, or other health factors could also contribute to the observed pattern.
