EA shuts down BioWare and cancels the next Mass Effect game
Electronic Arts is shutting down BioWare, the studio known for role-playing games including Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The company also confirmed that it will not continue development on the next Mass Effect game.
Approximately 400 EA employees will lose their jobs, including around 50 at BioWare. Other planned changes include reducing the team at Skate developer Full Circle to a smaller, more focused group and pausing a project connected to The Sims.
The restructuring follows EA's acquisition in a $55 billion deal that closed in August. The transaction took the company private under an investor group led by the Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.
