Eiliko to hire independent security firm after report finds robot vulnerabilities

The company behind Eiliko, a robot charm that hangs from a bag and holds AI conversations, has said it will hire an independent security firm after a report identified serious security issues with the device.

The Verge and security researcher Sammy Azdoufal found that vulnerabilities in Eiliko could allow hackers to read complete transcripts of conversations with the toy. The researchers also reported difficulty reaching Energize Lab, Eiliko’s maker, including emails to founder and CEO Shaw Yeung, before the company issued a statement.

Eiliko’s response reportedly confirmed the core issues and included a plan to bring in outside security expertise. The report nevertheless highlights the security risks posed by connected consumer products that process intimate user data, particularly when manufacturers are slow to disclose or explain how those risks are being addressed.
