OpenAI COO Fidji Simo Departs After Extended Medical Leave
OpenAI's Chief Operating Officer Fidji Simo is stepping down from her full-time position, according to reports. Simo, who has served as the company's No. 2 executive, had been on medical leave that extended longer than initially anticipated.
The departure comes at a challenging moment for the AI company. OpenAI is reportedly preparing for a potential initial public offering while simultaneously working to strengthen its position against competitor Anthropic in the enterprise market.
Simo joined OpenAI from Meta, where she served as vice president of product. Her tenure at OpenAI focused on scaling operations and business development as the company grew rapidly following the success of ChatGPT.
