Google will disable Search for K–12 accounts that reject AI features
Google is changing how its AI features are offered in K–12 schools. Access to Gemini, Gemini Notebook, Gemini in Classroom, and Google Search will be entirely disabled for student accounts unless administrators explicitly turn them on.
The policy does not give schools the option to disable Gemini-powered features while preserving Google Search. Google vice president of education Chris Phillips said the company considers Search and AI deeply integrated.
As a result, schools that reject the company’s AI features will also lose Search access for their student accounts. Administrators who want to use the services will need to enable them explicitly.
