Google DeepMind Releases AlphaGenome Atlas: A Predictive Map of Human DNA
Google DeepMind has unveiled AlphaGenome Atlas, an AI tool designed to advance our understanding of the human genome. The platform provides what researchers describe as a "predictive map of every possible DNA letter change in the human genome."
DNA is composed of four chemical bases—adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G), and thymine (T)—and the human genome contains approximately three billion of these letter pairs. By modeling how changes to these genetic sequences might affect biological functions, the tool could help scientists identify connections between genetic variations and health outcomes more efficiently.
DeepMind researchers suggest the atlas could accelerate scientific discovery in biology and ultimately support the development of new treatments for diseases. The platform represents a computational approach to genomic analysis, allowing researchers to explore genetic variations without the time and resources typically required for laboratory experiments.
