Bright Daylight Exposure Linked to Lower Dementia Risk
Researchers studying more than 87,000 adults found an association between daytime light exposure and dementia risk. Participants with higher levels of bright daylight exposure had a 16% lower risk of developing dementia, with longer exposure linked to greater reductions.
The analysis also identified daily exposure of less than 42 minutes of bright daylight as a stronger predictor of dementia than six established risk factors. The findings suggest that daylight exposure may be relevant to brain health, although the reported association does not by itself establish that insufficient sunlight causes dementia.
