Meta Releases Muse Spark Open AI Model Optimized for Apple Silicon

Meta has launched Muse Spark Open, an AI model the company is positioning as its most capable open-weight release for the US market. The announcement stands out for an unexpected collaboration: Meta and Apple, typically competitors in the consumer hardware and social media spaces, worked together to optimize the model for Apple Silicon.

According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Muse Spark Open can run on "your desktop using two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios with the latest MLX framework." The MLX framework is Apple's machine learning framework designed specifically for efficient execution on Apple silicon chips. John Ternus, Apple's new CEO, publicly congratulated the Meta team on X, calling it "amazing to run a model of Muse" on the new Mac hardware.

The partnership represents a notable shift in the typically competitive relationship between the two tech giants. By targeting Apple desktop hardware specifically, Meta appears to be expanding the accessibility of its open-weight models beyond cloud deployments, allowing developers with sufficient local hardware to run the model without relying on external servers.

Muse Spark Open joins Meta's growing portfolio of open-weight AI models, following the company's strategy of releasing capable models that the broader developer community can inspect, modify, and deploy according to their needs.
