Microsoft Imposes Hourly Limits on Xbox Cloud Gaming After Year of Unlimited Access
Microsoft has announced significant changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming, ending the unlimited access that has been available to Game Pass subscribers since the feature opened to Premium and Essential tiers last year.
Beginning in November, cloud gaming will be capped based on subscription tier. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will receive 15 hours per month, Premium subscribers will get 10 hours, and Essential subscribers will be limited to just 5 hours monthly.
The company acknowledged that this shift represents a meaningful change for players who rely heavily on cloud gaming. According to Microsoft, the new limits are expected to impact approximately four percent of current users.
The timing is notable—these changes arrive less than a year after Microsoft expanded cloud gaming access beyond the Ultimate tier, making it available to a broader range of Game Pass subscribers at no additional cost.
