NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has launched, beginning its journey to unlock some of the universe's most enigmatic secrets. The telescope, named after NASA's first Chief of Astronomy Nancy Grace Roman, is designed to probe the nature of dark energy and dark matter—components that together account for approximately 95% of the universe but remain poorly understood.
The mission aims to map millions of galaxies, survey star populations beyond our Milky Way, and conduct a comprehensive survey of the sky to better understand cosmic expansion and the distribution of matter across the cosmos. Equipped with a wide-field instrument, the Roman Space Telescope will capture expansive views of space, complementing the focused observations of other space-based telescopes.
