Nvidia to Acquire Hugging Face for $12.9 Billion, Uniting Top AI Chipmaker with Leading Model Repository
Nvidia has confirmed it will acquire Hugging Face, the widely-used platform for hosting and sharing open-source AI models, datasets, and development tools, in a deal worth roughly $12.9 billion.
Hugging Face, founded in 2016, has become a cornerstone of the AI development ecosystem. The platform hosts over 3 million models and serves a community of more than 18 million developers. It is frequently described as the "GitHub for AI" due to its browsable library of open-source machine learning resources and its emphasis on community collaboration.
The acquisition brings together two major forces in the AI industry. Nvidia is the dominant supplier of the graphics processing units (GPUs) that power most large-scale AI training and inference workloads, while Hugging Face provides the software layer where many developers share, discover, and deploy machine learning models.
