OpenAI to Release Next Model in Limited Preview Following Trump Administration Request
OpenAI will release its next major AI model in a limited preview format after the Trump administration requested the company stagger its rollout, citing security concerns.
According to reports, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman informed employees during a company Q&A that the model, internally referred to as GPT-5.6, would be released initially to only a small group of enterprise customers. During this preview period, the Trump administration will review and approve customer access on a case-by-case basis.
The administration reportedly expressed apprehension about potential security issues associated with the model. This arrangement appears to be a more favorable outcome for OpenAI compared to the treatment received by rival AI company Anthropic, which reportedly faced stricter constraints from the federal government.
