Review finds limited evidence for medical cannabis as an insomnia treatment

A major review has found little reliable evidence supporting medical cannabis as a treatment for insomnia. The analysis found that existing studies do not clearly demonstrate improvements in sleep quality, sleep duration, or daytime functioning.

Researchers cautioned that the result should not be interpreted as proof that cannabis is ineffective. Instead, they said the current body of evidence is too weak or inconsistent to determine whether medical cannabis provides meaningful benefits for people with insomnia.

The findings suggest that further well-designed studies are needed before firm conclusions can be drawn about cannabis's role in sleep treatment.
