Research Identifies Brain Protein Menin as Potential Target for Counteracting Aging Signs

Researchers have identified a brain protein that may play a significant role in driving the aging process. The protein, called Menin, was found to decline with age in mice, and this reduction was associated with a range of age-related issues including increased inflammation, cognitive decline, decreased bone density, and thinning skin.

The study demonstrated that restoring Menin levels in older mice led to the reversal of several of these aging signs. Additionally, the research found that treatment with the amino acid D-serine, which is involved in neural signaling, improved cognitive function in the animals.

These findings suggest that Menin and related pathways could represent promising targets for developing interventions aimed at promoting healthier aging. The researchers note that while these results are encouraging, further studies will be needed to determine whether similar effects can be achieved in humans and to understand the full mechanism by which Menin influences the aging process.

The work adds to growing scientific interest in understanding the molecular drivers of aging and exploring interventions that could help maintain cognitive and physical function later in life.
