SpaceX reportedly explores Boost Mobile deal for Starlink-based cellular service
SpaceX is reportedly exploring an agreement with Boost Mobile that could give Starlink a path into the US cellular market. Options discussed include acquiring the budget-focused carrier or launching a service through its network, according to reports citing The Washington Post.
SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk is said to have discussed the possibility with Charlie Ergen, chairman of Boost Mobile parent company EchoStar. Such a move would support SpaceX’s broader ambition to make Starlink a major mobile carrier and provide terrestrial connectivity for its satellite network.
Boost Mobile’s network is currently powered by AT&T and T-Mobile. SpaceX would therefore need permission from both carriers before it could use those connections for its own service. The reports do not indicate whether an agreement has been reached or what final structure, if any, SpaceX and EchoStar would choose.
