SpaceX Wins $4.16 Billion Contract for Missile-Tracking Satellites in 'Golden Dome' Defense System

The Pentagon has awarded SpaceX a $4.16 billion contract to develop missile-tracking satellites as part of the planned "Golden Dome" defense system. The US Space Force announced the award on Friday, with the satellites designed to detect and track targets from space using sensor-equipped technology.

The Golden Dome system, inspired by Israel's Iron Dome, aims to identify and intercept missiles and other aerial threats. SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, already held contracts for other components of the program, and this latest award further integrates the company into US missile defense infrastructure.

The contract comes as SpaceX has also filed for what could become the largest initial public offering in history, according to reports.
