Warhound plans enhanced military and police dogs with Anduril technology

Warhound, a new Texas-based defense startup, is developing genetically modified dogs for use by military and police organizations in the United States. The company plans to combine genetics and animal biology work from Colossal Biosciences with cybernetic “Augments” from Anduril, the defense technology company co-founded by Palmer Luckey.

The proposed dogs would be bred for traits suited to demanding missions, including improved health, and fitted with Anduril’s advanced military technology. Warhound has not yet outlined a detailed deployment timeline or described how the animals would be integrated into operational units.

Warhound was created by Luckey and Ben Lamm, who co-founded Colossal Biosciences, a company known for work involving genetics, cloning, and animal biology. The startup has secured $200 million in funding, providing it with significant capital to pursue the program.

The initiative reflects a broader effort to apply biotechnology and autonomous or cybernetically enhanced systems to defense and public-safety operations. It also raises questions about animal welfare, the safety of genetically modified working animals, and the implications of deploying digitally equipped dogs in sensitive environments.
