Swarmer Announces Acquisition of Ukrainian UGV Maker Ratel Robotics for Up to $224M
Swarmer, a company focused on developing swarm software for autonomous systems, has announced an agreement to acquire Ratel Robotics, a Ukrainian manufacturer of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). The transaction is valued at up to $224 million and represents a strategic move to integrate swarm intelligence software with proven military-grade ground robotics.
Ratel Robotics has operated in Ukraine throughout the ongoing conflict, developing and deploying UGVs that have seen practical use in challenging combat environments. This experience has allowed the company to refine its systems based on real-world feedback from operators in active conditions.
The combination of Swarmer's swarm software with Ratel Robotics' hardware is intended to enable coordinated multi-vehicle operations. Swarm technology typically involves multiple autonomous units working together, sharing sensor data and coordinating movements to accomplish tasks that would be difficult for individual systems.
The deal structure reportedly includes an upfront payment with additional earnout components tied to performance milestones, which is common in technology acquisitions where post-integration success drives total consideration.
