A Tennessee man has received a 30-year federal prison sentence for distributing AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Authorities say he traded the illegal images with a man based in Canada.
The case highlights the growing concern among law enforcement agencies worldwide regarding the use of generative AI tools to create non-consensual imagery of minors. While the images in question were synthetically generated rather than depicting real victims, prosecutors argued that such material still constitutes illegal CSAM under federal law and can normalize the sexual abuse of children.
Federal investigators tracked the exchange of materials between the two individuals across international borders. The Canadian co-conspirator faces separate proceedings in that country.
