The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is taking action against companies allegedly helping Chinese drone manufacturer DJI evade U.S. restrictions. Eight companies—including Cogito Tech and Fixaxo Technology—have each been fined $25,000 and given until July 20th to respond to FCC inquiries.
These companies are suspected of operating as fronts for DJI, allowing the manufacturer's popular drones and cameras to enter the U.S. market despite restrictions on foreign drone technology. Researchers and watchers had identified brands like Xtra and Skyrover as seemingly selling DJI products under different names.
The FCC's enforcement action represents a significant escalation in efforts to close loopholes that have allowed DJI products to continue flowing into the American market. The agency has given the targeted companies just 10 calendar days to provide answers before facing potential further penalties.
