Microsoft and Nvidia Unveil Surface Laptop Ultra with New Arm-Based Chip

Microsoft and Nvidia have announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, a new 15-inch laptop featuring a custom Arm-based Nvidia chip at its core. The announcement represents Microsoft's second attempt at an Arm-based flagship Windows portable, following a $900 million write-off on its original Surface effort years ago.

Details remain limited, as Microsoft has not yet revealed final specifications or pricing. However, the company is positioning the device as its most powerful Surface to date, with Surface boss Andrew Hill stating, "This is the most powerful thing we've ever made."

The partnership between Microsoft and Nvidia signals a renewed push into Arm-based computing for Windows, a space that has historically been challenging for the platform. The companies are expected to share more information about the Surface Laptop Ultra closer to its release date.
