KAIST Develops Spray-On Powder That Stops Life-Threatening Bleeding in Seconds
A team at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has developed a spray-on powder capable of stopping life-threatening bleeding in about one second. The powder works by instantly forming a strong, flexible gel barrier over a wound, addressing a critical gap in emergency medical treatment.
Unlike conventional hemostatic products, which often struggle with deep or irregularly shaped injuries, this technology adapts to complex wound geometries. The gel adheres quickly and firmly, providing rapid hemorrhage control where it is needed most.
One notable characteristic of the powder is its long-term stability. The formulation remains effective even after years of storage under harsh conditions, making it suitable for deployment in demanding environments such as battlefields, disaster zones, or remote field operations where equipment reliability is essential.
