Tidal Won't Pay Royalties on AI-Generated Music But Won't Ban It Outright
Tidal has unveiled new policies governing AI-generated music on its platform, aiming to balance artist protection with listener transparency.
Key Policy Changes
Starting July 15th, tracks Tidal identifies as entirely AI-generated will be marked with a visible icon on the platform. However, the more immediate change takes effect today: AI-generated music will no longer be monetizable on the service.
"Tidal's priority is ensuring royalties go to original works directly produced, written, and performed by people," the company stated. "We will therefore not knowingly attribute royalties to music we identify as wholly AI-generated."

Tidal did not disclose what tools or methods it uses to identify AI-generated tracks. The platform emphasized that its approach focuses on tracks that are entirely AI-created rather than human artists who use AI as a creative tool.
