Visa and BBVA Test Agentic AI Payments on Existing Infrastructure
Visa and BBVA have collaborated on a proof-of-concept that demonstrates existing payment infrastructure can support "agentic payments" — transactions initiated and managed autonomously by AI agents.
The pilot explored how artificial intelligence systems could handle payment workflows without requiring new rails or significant infrastructure changes. This could enable future applications where AI assistants manage subscriptions, execute recurring payments, or handle other financial tasks on behalf of users.
