Most Traceable Musk Midterm Spending Went to Losing Races
Elon Musk played an unusually large role in the Republican midterm campaign push, according to a Wired analysis of the money he committed to races that have already been decided.
The analysis found that more than 99 cents of every traceable dollar went to a race Musk lost. That spending reportedly amounted to about $400 million, making the outcome notably different from the scale of his political intervention and the perception of influence surrounding his involvement.
The available figures cover traceable spending in decided races rather than the full scope of Musk’s political activity. Even so, the analysis indicates that the financial support attracted the most attention did not translate into victories in the races examined.
