TP-Link Plans Nearly $1 Billion US Router Manufacturing Push

TP-Link is considering a major expansion of domestic manufacturing as it works around restrictions on foreign-made routers in the United States. According to the company, the planned investment could total nearly $1 billion and create hundreds of high-paying jobs.

The move would put TP-Link ahead of competitors including Netgear and Asus, which continue to manufacture their routers in Asia. Those companies have reportedly received blanket waivers allowing them to sell new networking equipment in the US, while TP-Link has not secured a comparable exemption.

The timing is especially significant for TP-Link. The company has launched its first Wi-Fi 8 routers but says it cannot currently bring them into the US because of the administration’s foreign-router ban. Establishing production in the country could help it meet US demand without relying on overseas manufacturing or waivers.

The proposal is presented as a commitment from TP-Link, but the details of the investment, production schedule, and resulting products have not yet been fully outlined.
