Researchers employing X-ray space observatories have captured what scientists describe as the "breath" of ancient quasars—intensely luminous cosmic objects powered by supermassive black holes in the early universe. The detected outflows reach temperatures of approximately 36 million degrees, representing the blisteringly hot exhaust from material being expelled as these cosmic giants actively fed on surrounding matter.

The observations target quasars from roughly 2 billion years after the Big Bang, a period when the universe was still in its formative stages.
