Xbox Secures Exclusive Grand Theft Auto VI Cloud Streaming Rights
According to reports from internal sources, Microsoft has landed a deal making Xbox Cloud Gaming the only platform capable of streaming Grand Theft Auto VI at launch. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reportedly told employees during an all-hands meeting that the company is preparing to do something around the highly anticipated game that "no other platform holder is doing."
The exclusive streaming arrangement means players who want to access GTA VI through cloud streaming will need to use Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming service at launch. The duration of the exclusivity agreement remains unclear, and it is currently unknown whether Sony's PlayStation or other platforms will gain streaming access at a later date.
Rockstar Games has not yet announced a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI, which has only been confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The lack of a PC release makes the cloud streaming deal particularly notable, as it provides Microsoft with a potential avenue to reach players on non-console devices through its cloud infrastructure. Xbox has been positioning its cloud gaming service as a key part of its gaming strategy, allowing players to access titles on devices like phones, tablets, and low-spec computers.
