Flapping Airplanes Raises $1 Billion for AI Models Built with a More Selective Data Strategy
Flapping Airplanes, a one-year-old AI lab, has raised $1 billion in a Series A funding round that values the company at $6 billion.
The round comes less than a year after the company raised $180 million in seed funding. Flapping Airplanes describes its mission as building AI models “without ingesting half the internet,” pointing to a more selective approach to training data.
The size and timing of the funding make the new round one of the most consequential early-stage raises reported for an AI-focused company. The Series A provides capital for Flapping Airplanes to expand its model development work, although the announcement does not specify which models the company plans to release or how its selective data strategy will be implemented.
