Apple Uses AI to Let Users Build Safari Extensions Through Natural Language
Apple is tackling one of Safari's most persistent weaknesses with a new AI-powered approach. The browser has historically lagged behind competitors in extension availability, largely due to Apple's strict development requirements that made creating extensions a technical barrier for many users.
In a demonstration, Apple showed how users can simply describe what they want an extension to do—"Save and track cooking recipes from around the web"—and Apple Intelligence generates a functional "Recipe Keeper" extension complete with toolbar button functionality and the ability to add notes to saved items.
This move represents a significant shift from Safari's previous extension ecosystem, which required developers to navigate complex approval processes and technical specifications. By allowing what some call "vibe-coding," Apple aims to democratize extension creation and expand Safari's capabilities without relying on traditional development workflows.
