Apple Launches HomeView Smart Display for Home Automation
Apple has announced its entry into the smart display market with the HomeView, a dedicated home automation hub that integrates with the company's smart home ecosystem.
The device features a 7-inch square screen and will be available in two configurations: a wall-mounted version and a model that sits atop a speaker base. Both versions are priced at $299 and are scheduled to launch in November.
As a smart home controller, the HomeView provides access to smart home controls and displays footage from HomeKit Secure Video cameras. The device also supports video calls and includes Siri AI for pulling up information through voice commands.
On the connectivity side, the HomeView functions as both a Matter controller and a Thread Border Router, enabling it to serve as a hub for the broader smart home ecosystem that extends beyond Apple's own devices. This positioning aligns with Apple's strategy of making the HomeView a central point for managing compatible smart home devices from various manufacturers.
The announcement marks Apple's continued expansion into the smart home category, providing users with a dedicated screen-based interface for managing their connected home devices alongside the existing Home app experience on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
