DoorDash to Acquire Instacart in $17 Billion Deal
DoorDash has announced an agreement to acquire Instacart for approximately $17 billion, bringing two major on-demand delivery platforms under one roof.
The transaction would combine DoorDash’s restaurant delivery business with Instacart’s grocery marketplace and established relationships with retailers. DoorDash has already expanded into grocery delivery, but the acquisition would give it a larger presence in the category and broaden its offerings beyond restaurant takeout.
The deal comes amid increasing competition in both grocery and food delivery. Instacart competes with DoorDash, Uber, Walmart, and Amazon in grocery, while DoorDash’s core restaurant business faces pressure from rivals such as Uber and Delivery Hero, which have expanded through acquisitions including Postmates.
The combination is intended to help DoorDash diversify as the delivery market becomes more crowded.
