Milky Way's Supermassive Black Hole Found to Generate Outward Gas Winds

New observations of the center of the Milky Way have revealed that the supermassive black hole known as Sagittarius A* is generating winds that blow gas away from the galactic core.

The findings suggest that even black holes that are not actively feeding—considered "quiet" in astronomical terms—can still produce significant outflows of material. These winds may influence star formation and the overall evolution of the region surrounding the black hole.

The discovery adds to our understanding of how supermassive black holes interact with their host galaxies, even when not in dramatic outburst phases.
