Tesla Begins Early Production of Optimus Humanoid Robot
Tesla has begun early production of its Optimus humanoid robot on a high-volume manufacturing line in Fremont, California, according to CEO Elon Musk.
The announcement was accompanied by caveats about the robot’s readiness. Musk said Tesla still needs to make substantial improvements in Optimus’s hands, safety, reliability, and durability. The company also needs to develop the artificial intelligence required for the robot to perform useful, open-ended tasks.
Musk also said that, at some point, there could be more humanoid robots on Earth than humans, but the immediate challenge remains turning the early-production system into a reliable and productive tool.
