Sony quarterly profit rises on PlayStation and Spider-Man success
Sony’s latest quarterly results show a sharp increase in profit, with the company’s PlayStation business and the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day playing major roles.
According to The Verge, net profit reached ¥449.6 billion, or about $2.84 billion, for the three months ending in September. That compares with ¥311.4 billion, or about $1.96 billion, in the same period a year earlier, representing a 44% increase.
The July release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day was a notable contributor. The film earned $2.52 billion worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing movie in history at the time reported, and its success helped lift Sony’s PlayStation results.
The quarter illustrates how game releases and related entertainment can combine to support Sony’s broader financial performance, with the PlayStation segment serving as a significant driver of the company’s profit growth.
