China’s space station reaches record-low atomic temperature

An experiment aboard China’s space station produced atoms at a reported record-low temperature of about 10 trillionths of a kelvin, or roughly 10⁻¹² K.

Orbiting Earth reduces the influence of gravity, allowing researchers to study atomic behavior under unusual conditions. In the station experiment, that environment was used to cool the atoms to temperatures close to absolute zero.
