SpaceX Acquires AI Coding Assistant Cursor for $60 Billion
Days after its initial public offering, SpaceX has confirmed its intention to acquire Cursor, an AI-powered programming platform, for $60 billion. This significant investment is seen as a strategic move by Elon Musk's company to enhance its artificial intelligence offerings and compete more effectively with AI leaders such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
The acquisition was foreshadowed in April when SpaceX announced a conditional agreement to either purchase Cursor for $60 billion or pay a $10 billion termination fee. The finalization of the deal was pending SpaceX's public offering. According to an SEC filing, SpaceX anticipates the transaction to be completed in the third quarter of 2026.
