SpaceX reportedly Seeks Access to 80,000 U.S. Cell Sites in Mobile-Carrier Push

SpaceX is reportedly working with Crown Castle, one of the largest U.S. cell-tower owners, to access at least 80,000 cell sites as it expands its push into the mobile market.

The reported plan could give SpaceX access to roughly half of the 158,500 cell towers currently operating in the United States, according to Reuters. Crown Castle CEO Chris Hillabrant declined to discuss customer-specific details when asked about a potential partnership with SpaceX, Amazon, or other satellite services during an earnings call.

The move would position SpaceX to compete more directly with Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T by combining satellite connectivity with existing cellular infrastructure. The report does not specify the terms of any partnership or whether an agreement has been reached.
