Tesla sets Q2 2027 target for adding customer vehicles to robotaxi fleet

Tesla has set a target of the second quarter of 2027 for allowing customers to add their own vehicles to the company’s robotaxi fleet.

The timeline was announced by Tesla Vice President of Autonomous Driving Ashok Elluswamy during the company’s third-quarter earnings call. It formalizes a capability that Elon Musk has discussed with Tesla owners for several years.

Elluswamy said the software used for Cybercabs and Model Y vehicles is the same, and that Tesla plans to release that software through its V15 release. The claim connects the proposed customer-fleet feature with the same autonomous-driving software intended for Tesla’s Cybercab and Model Y vehicles.

While the Q2 2027 target provides a clearer milestone, the announcement leaves important implementation questions unanswered, including what vehicle requirements, safety approvals, and operational rules will apply. Whether Tesla can meet the deadline remains uncertain.
